We are working with U.S. Army researchers on a new surveying method to explore more effective and affordable ways to build on permafrost. The technology uses a combination of ground penetrating radar and electrical resistance tomography (ERT) to detect points of interest in the ground, which could reduce the cost of construction and prevent expensive building failures. Partnering with the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), the goal is to develop a rubric for matching permafrost conditions with foundation designs.
