We installed a ground
source heat pump at the
research center last year to
study how it performed in
the cold soils of Fairbanks.
During the first year, the
heat pump beat our
expectations -- providing a
quarter of our heat and
producing 3.6 units of
energy for every 1 unit
required to run the system.
That's more than 400
gallons of heating oil we
didn't have to burn last
year.
How did it perform?
